IRS Amnesty programs
IRS Amnesty programs for U.S. taxpayers in Ireland
The IRS has several options for U.S. taxpayers who are not compliant with their tax filings and information reporting. If you qualify and if you make your submission before the IRS contacts you, you can eliminate all fines and penalties and exposure to the IRS.
These programs are given at the discretion of the IRS, and they may withdraw them at some point in the future.
The best options entail showing that your conduct was non-willful – which is a legal concept borne out in U.S. case-law.

Taxpayers who have income less than $75,000 (for a single filer, $180,000 if earned income) for 2019 or 2020 are eligible for U.S covid stimulus credits (up to $3,200 for a single filer, more if married or with minor children who are also U.S. citizens) – where the payments were not made directly. This is available to taxpayers who have never filed before or have not filed for many years. This benefit will not be available after 2024.
